THEMIS 4D (2022)
Themis 4D offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the figure of Justice —not as a symbol of punishment, but as a principle of balance and awareness.
Here, Alex R. Plaza transcends the traditional iconography of Themis to explore justice as a phenomenon in motion: an action unfolding through time rather than a static image of judgment.
The title refers to the fourth dimension —time— which the artist translates into paint through overlapping planes, gestural tension, and directional energy.
The result is a composition charged with rhythm and structure, where geometry and motion coexist to capture multiple temporal moments within a single frame.
Themis has no face; her gaze dissolves into the act of painting. In doing so, Plaza reverses the classical metaphor of the blindfolded goddess: justice here emerges not from blindness, but from expanded perception —the ability to see in all directions. As the artist states, "only kindness weighs as much as she does."
